Colored Lines Appear On C450i Printouts

EvateNala |

When colored lines appear on printouts from the Konica Minolta C450i, it usually indicates an issue with the machine's imaging system, toner cartridges, or maintenance components.

Fault phenomenon:

Colored lines appeared in the C450i print copy, all three colors, especially yellow. When the C450i outputs in color, lines appeared in the CD direction (parallel to the drum core), with different depths, and the line interval is about 38mm. The color of the lines is relatively yellow. Cause of the fault:
The wear on the surface of the drum unit caused abnormal control of the charging voltage of the high-voltage board.

On-site processing steps:

  1. Block the laser output, and there are lines in the blank area of the copy;
  2. Because the yellow color is relatively obvious, the yellow drum component is replaced and the developer components are reinstalled, but the problem is not solved;
  3. Re-plug the line, replace the laser component, transfer belt, high-voltage board, and substrate, and the fault remains;
  4. Remove all drum components and developer components from the normal machine and install and test them normally.
  5. After that, the developer and drum components were replaced separately to the original machine for testing. The fault reappeared when the C drum component was installed, confirming that the C drum component caused the fault.
  6. Carefully check the drum assembly. There are obvious black circles on the surface of the C drum (as shown in the attached picture). There are also black circles on the other color drums. The surface of the charging roller is also clean. The image effect of the test is improved to a certain extent.

It is judged that the color line failure of the image is caused by the wear and tear of the drum unit surface and the leakage of charging, which causes the unstable output of the high-voltage board. Check the consumables usage information to confirm that the color drum unit of the machine has reached the end of its service life.

Conclusion

When colored lines appear on the Konica Minolta C450i printouts, it's often due to wear and tear on the drum unit, leading to abnormal voltage control by the high-voltage board. This issue, particularly noticeable with yellow lines, results from the drum's surface degradation, which affects the machine's imaging system. To resolve this, replacing the worn drum components is essential to restore print quality.
